Commissary Ridge, SW Wyoming
A Brief Guide by Ralph Maughan

Ishmael and Shayne are going to be taking me into this wilderness—or something just as free of hoodrats—for our joint investigation of the Liver-Eater’s feud with the Sacred Ravens, which shall be the subject of the novel Kettle of Bones. Just taking a glance at this terrain and comparing the ridgelines to those I have hiked in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia gives me the same sensation I recall from finishing up my sparring session with Duz and then watching Eddie Van Kirk shatter a rib cage that belonged to a hunted creature that looked frighteningly like me.
This will be my first actual outdoor adventure since age 17, something I never thought would happen.

Ha how are you gonna train for all that? Find the biggest hill in harm city and walk it a thousand times while fending off packs of hood rats! Actually that 2nd part should actually be useful training.
Beautiful scenery. Hiking up to 9000 feet? Man that will help you sleep well at night.
Nice picture of the Commisaries. Think about the name of the mountains and about the blurb below the photo, i.e., its meaning(s): food, grocery store, good eats, meat, augh full belly! Can't wait to get up there again. Haven't eaten a wolf yet, but....a little Tabasco does wonders.
I suggest a 5 mile daily run prior to the journey. I'm not sure how you train for altitude sickness other than skydiving. High altitude seems to affect alot of lowlanders; they just turn pale and pass-out.
Ishmael and I will carry you off the mountain if you fall-out.
You mean you won't leave me in a shallow grave so I can write a best seller? Darn.
From getting punched in the head so much I have a condition that prevents normal brain oxygenation much of the time.
The interesting thing about it, is that I'm used to going with such low oxygen levels that I have become immune to carotid chokes. I can just lay there and let dudes choke me and I'm still stupidly awake.
Hopefully this useless superpower will help with the altitude.
Thanks for the heads up, Shayne.
