They demanded he hand over his guns…he gave them the contents thereof instead.
A good home invasion case study for the Violence Project. This robbery was perpetrated by a pair of white thugs. Even in rural Midwest Whitebreadistan you are not totally safe from home invasion. For one, there are lot of people in nearly every white community these days who have expensive drug habits. More than you realize. These white dope addicts usually are not violent, but occasionally some of them get desperate and/or have a history of violence. Keep in mind the main thing that keeps young white guys from risking going to prison is the fact that in just about every state they will be out numbered by black prisoners who will abuse them horribly during their sentence. For another, be aware that black criminals have been documented to, not unfrequently, travel considerable distances to hit what they believe to be lucrative targets in Whitebreadistan communities.
I believe Dean Weingarten is likely to be correct in his assumption that the criminals targeted the 66 year-old victim based on insider information (The man’s cleaning woman seems a likely suspect in this case. She may have provided target information intentionally or unintentionally). In my area a similar home invasion was perpetrated against a middle aged couple by a trio of white twenty-somethings, two males and a female. Not unlike the Harold Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate situation: ,wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Starkweather. The female had worked for the couple and knew where they hid their valuables. The couple, living in the country as they did, left their door unlocked while they were at home, so the trio of home invaders where able to burst in, surprise the couple and take them captive prior to ransacking the house (fortunately the couple wasn’t killed or tortured, as in the Starkweather-Fugate cases). The lesson learned once again is keep your doors locked! Even when you are at home and even if you live in Antarctica. If the home invaders have to break in they will probably make some noise and at the very least give you a few seconds warning that something bad is going down, rather than have you first become aware of the intruders’ presence when they put a knife to your throat while you are watching TV, or sitting on the toilet. Yeah, no kidding. Massad Ayoob in his latest “Ayoob Files” column for “America Handgunner” magazine (Jan/Feb 2017 issue) describes an incident that occurred nearly two years ago in which the homeowner in Austin, TX was indeed sitting on the toilet at 6:15 AM when a large and powerfully built, escaped lunatic smashed down his front door.
Notice that the state police who responded to the incident in Michigan didn’t arrest the 66-year-old homeowner, but they sure as heck DID place him in handcuffs while they sorted out who was zooming who. So likewise, expect to be treated like a perpetrator at first by the cops if you successfully defend yourself. Ayoob calls this the “false positive effect”. In other words in the average cop’s experience it’s usually the victim lying in a pool of blood rather than the perpetrator(s) when they arrive at the scene of a crime. Thus they will regard the guy standing as the criminal suspect, until proven otherwise.

MI: Rifle in Bedroom Beats Knife at Throat
Tawas City, Michigan is a small town on the West coast of Lake Huron. A 66-year-old man has a modest home there, where he lives alone. He has a cleaning woman stop by to help maintain the home.
It was after dark on Sunday, 13 November, about 8:20 p.m. Crime rates are low in the area. As with many homes in the rural Midwest, the door was not locked while he was home. He was watching TV. The first sign of a threat was when a knife was put to his throat.
Two masked intruders had silently entered the house. They demanded money and guns. Then they tried to force him into the bathroom. That was not a good sign. He told them that they would never find the money without him.
"I was watching TV and suddenly there was a knife at my throat," the 66-year-old man said.
He lives alone and smiled as he described the house as a "storage unit" where he sleeps.
"They wore masks. The bigger guy demanded money and guns. I'm thinking 'how did he know I had money and guns," he said.
He thought of his options. He considered bolting for the back door. The home is not large. But, there were two of them, and they were young and fast. This is rural Michigan, the heart of deer country. He had a loaded rifle near his bed, a 30-06.
As they passed near the bedroom door, he made his move. He pushed one assailant, 21-year-old Jesse Allen Odell, aside, and sprang into the bedroom to the rifle. He turned and fired, killing Odell, and wounding the other attacker in the upper thigh. Then he exited the house to seek help.
"They tried to get me into the bathroom, but I wasn't having it. I thought they'd kill me for sure if I went in there," he said. "I thought about running for the back door, but they were younger and would have caught me and stabbed me to death by the time I hit the stairs."
When they came close to his bedroom, the homeowner said he decided to "go for it." His 30.06 hunting rifle was near the bed, loaded.
"I shoved the guy and went for the rifle. I just grabbed it and fired," he said.
Police are looking for the cleaning woman.
It is not uncommon for criminals to develop a ring of sources who keep an eye open for likely places to rob. It is one of the security risks that is unavoidable if you allow people into your domicile. The attackers probably knew that the door was habitually left unlocked. When I was growing up in Northern Wisconsin, we never locked our doors. What would be the point, in a house with no visible neighbors? When we were home, the dogs always alerted us to the presence of visitors; when we were not, any criminal need only break in unhindered.
That does not apply to a man living alone without a dog. Sophisticated home security systems have become common and relatively cheap. It is easy to become complacent, especially in an environment where crime is rare.
Both attackers had criminal histories. If the bullet hit bone, the survivor is likely missing a leg. 30-06 hunting ammunition is designed for optimum destruction of tissue in big game. Deer are about the same size as humans.
The make or model of the rifle has not been made public.

The .308 was created post WWII to replicate the ballistics of the .30-06 in a shorter cartridge for use in more compact full-automatic and semi-automatic military fireman. Like the .30-06, the .308 became extremely popular as a big game hunting cartridge.

Shot plenty of deer with a .308. Hard to appreciate just how destructive a hit from one is until you've emptied a few thoracic cavities and seen just how thoroughly shredded the heart, lungs and major cardiac and pulmonary vessels are by one 165gr slug. The amazing thing is that the deer will often still run a distance despite no functioning heart and almost instant exsanguination.

James,

Somewhat off topic but your many descriptions of the female dindus matches remarkably well with this description of the way that society shapes breeding choices and types:

Look at the RHS column for an explanation of what a r and K type is ... You are DEFINITELY a K type! >};o)

Thank you for keeping me out of the r-pool, Phil!
