“According to an agreed statement of facts, Nyuk Hwang repeatedly hit her husband of 27 years with a shower curtain rod, a two-by-four piece of wood, a stone pestle, a yellow wooden stick and a red metal broom handle in their northeast Edmonton home during a protracted argument over his gambling problem.”

“The obituary for Lionel Desmond said he “succumbed to the tortures of PTSD” relating to his service in Afghanistan. It described him as having a friendly demeanour and a contagious smile.”
Interesting case. FYI: Blackfalds, Alberta is a town of 9,510, just north of Red Deer, pop. 90,564, on the Queen Elizabeth Highway #2 about halfway between Calgary (1,096,833) and Edmonton (899,447). In the USA the closer you are to a super highway the more likely you are to be targeted by criminals. Does this hold true in Canada as well? A Co-op gas bar is a gas station/ convenience store with a discount club arrangement. Sort of like a Costco or Sam’s Club.

The robber in the red hoodie appears to be holding a Browning BLR lever-action rifle. A “high-powered” center fire rifle of indeterminate caliber. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_BLR The BLR is a high end hunting rifle with an MSRP of $950.
