‘The Dark Flower’
Hunting Humans by Kevin Kangas
© 2014 James LaFond
FEB/22/14
A Baltimore area low budget film of uncertain date [I’m guessing 2000], starring Rich Ganz and Bubby Lewis.
Aric Blue is a serial killer who narrates the life patterns of his victims. He claims to have killed 107 people, with 12 of them having been killed since his move to Baltimore. He despises his prey with comments like, ‘tunnel-vision of the week-minded’, and ‘Patterns are what killed all my victims.’ Aric is intoxicated with hunting humans. Then, one night, he discovers that he is being hunted.
The acting ranges from passable to bad, and some of the editing is worthy of 1970’s blacksploitation flicks. The writing, however, is very good. There is no needless violence and even the calculated killings do not dwell on the gross aspects. I really don’t know how to rate this movie, simply because the writing was so good and the production so uneven, I just say give it a try and see what you think.
