"I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful."
-Stephen Hawking, 1942-2018
"Phooey! I think the conventional afterlife is a fairy tale for people afraid of the dark."
-Stephen Hawking, 1942-2018
“I find it as difficult to understand a scientist who does not acknowledge the presence of a superior rationality behind the existence of the universe as it is to comprehend a theologian who would deny the advance of science.”
-Werner Von Braun, 1912-1977
“My young son asked me what happens after we die. I told him we get buried under a bunch of dirt and worms eat our bodies. I guess I should have told him the truth - that most of us go to Hell and burn eternally - but I didn't want to upset him.”
-Jack Handey, “Deep Thoughts”
The recently departed Stephen Hawking is celebrated in the media as having been a ‘brilliant’ astrophysicist. It seems to me that he was famous mostly for being an outspoken atheist and doom crier. His vision of the birth of the universe having occurred completely spontaneously, without the intervention of a Supreme Being, appealed to a lot of people. People who for whatever reason have a grievance with the way the Creator has shaped the reality in which we are all compelled to live. Certainly Dr. Hawking had ample cause to find fault with the hand that God/Fate dealt him. Over all he kept a commendably positive attitude about his horrible disability, but at the same time he DID seem to like to ‘spit in the soup’ of the common masses by constantly forecasting the end of human life on earth. It is often a characteristic of very intelligent people that they resent the contentment of average people. The unconcern of the masses for things that they cannot see, hear or touch, and/or otherwise present no material reason for them to care about, seems to provoke brilliant people with an activist bent (You WILL be made to care!). Conversely the simple comfort many people, in both high and low places, take in the belief that a Deity is watching over them also provokes these activists. So they feel compelled to stir up discontent… just because. He DID seem to enjoy all the attention he got from it as well.
The question now is ‘Is Stephen Hawking right’? Is there no God, no afterlife, no soul? If he is right, then he will have no way of knowing, will he? His intelligence will have ceased to exist in any capacity once his body expired. The universe and everything in it will have ended for him when he died. He won’t be able to say, ’Told you so!’
If he is wrong, well then he may have all eternity to contemplate how stupid he was.

Stephen Hawking: So here's how it all happened without God
“Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.”
• Adolf Hitler, 1889 – 1945
“On the bright side, one day in the not-too distant future, these people will have far greater worries to occupy their minds, and keep them from fomenting mischief.”
• Anonymous Conservative 07/17/2016
“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
-Proverbs 27:12 (NIV)
“Brothers and sisters, I want to tell you this. The greatest thing on earth is to have the love of God in your heart, and the next greatest thing is to have electricity in your houses.”
-Farmer giving witness in a rural Tennessee church in the early 1940’s after Rural Electrification.
One of the issues that we have to thank Stephen Hawking and the rest of his ilk for is the fact that three generations of Americans now have been bombarded all their lives with predictions by putative scientific ‘authority’ that all human life on earth will end soon. One way or another. Probably within the lifetime of people alive today. Consequently a great many Americans have saved little to nothing for their old age. What would be the point if you will not be alive to reach old age? The worst thing that could happen for these people then will be if the world does NOT end. LOL!
Obviously there are many ‘r’ strategists in terms of evoloutionary reproductive theory among these people. Meaning that their psychology is structured for reproduction in large numbers to exploit times of resource abundance (like rabbits), rather than survive and thrive during times of resource scarcity and severe competition for the same (like wolves). As ‘r’ strategists they instinctively believe that resources are free and/or ought to be free. So they reject the old notion that ‘the world doesn’t owe you a living’. The ‘r’ strategist believes the world DOES owe him a living, and a lavish one at that. A belief which guides his political preferences. He looks around him at the evident prosperity in American society today and cannot imagine that there is not a huge pile of money someplace that can and should be tapped in to in order to provide for his every need and want. The science-guy doom criers further assure the ‘r’ strategist that if the government cannot provide for him it will be because humanity itself has been destroyed and the issue will have been rendered moot. These people hear what they want hear and believe what they want to believe to assuage their amygdala discomfort. Or as Anonymous Conservative says, they need to believe things that are logically not true in order for their brains to continue to function. Thus we are confronted with this strange dichotomy of a combination of both apathetic fatalism and a pernicious sense of entitlement simultaneously afflicting much of America’s population. It means that later in this century there will be huge numbers of Americans entering their retirement years without the scratch to provide for three hot’s and a cot and to keep the power on each and every day, much less finance a bucket list of exotic destination vacations. And they will further find to their profound dismay that their government is flat broke and unable to provide for them. The irony is that the low-IQ non-white minorities are in general providing for their old age retirement, even in the absence of government benefits, by having lots of children who they expect will contribute to their support. The white Leftists? Not so much. Keep in mind that these Lefties won’t consider it fair if you prepared for the days of famine while they did not. So they are liable to sic the government and/or their non-white minions on you out of spite. Watch out.
65% of Americans save little or nothing—and half could end up struggling in retirement

Sounds fairly dogmatic to me. Anyway, it matters not. The grave mocks nihilists more cruelly than they the religious.
