The week after the death of Frank Gilbert, my boxing coaching coach, positive news concerning combat sports began rising into my life as if to balance the loss. To my discredit, after Frank invited me over to talk, I put it off, trying to lose weight before we met, so I wouldn’t have to hear him say, “Good God, James, you better hope you’re not spotted on the beach by Eskimos…”
And now he’s gone.
Frank’s program, ongoing now since the 1970s, is still active in Loch Raven Village at the Rec Center under Alex Herb from 6:30 to 8 Monday thru Thursday evening.
Alex has invited me to train at the gym and I’ve taken him up on it but once as my schedule got out of control.

Sifu Tom Clark and coach Chris Clark have a new and larger location for their decades old Jeet Kune Do program in Edgemere, Baltimore County.
I have sparred there three Saturdays in the spring and early summer and the facility is top notch with an extensive bag array and two padded sparring floors, one fenced as well.
Clark's is 2909 Sparrows Point Rd
