I recommend the videos linked below as examples of how important resolve is against a group in combat. It has proven simple for some special men in war to hold off men by the bunches with unity of purpose and usually a superior ability to inflict punishment. Note how many of these men fought on bridges, 2 of seven. In the urban setting the narrow alley, the doorway and the sidewalk are your bridges, narrow approaches were you can meet foes in detail.
Soldier Millions of Portugal carried on a great martial tradition as an ally of the British Army who provided training for Portuguese soldiers as early as the 1700s and literally fought as a one-man army as did Audie Murphy and numerous their men in modern combat. This was more rare in ancient times, when only exceptionally powerful physical specimens could do such things.
There is no reason why a trained, conditioned and experienced full-contact stick fighter could not take a bat in one hand and a jacket in the other and slaughter 3 to 5 adult male foes in the way that The Viking at Stamford Bridge cut down 30 and the giant samurai forty on their respective bridges.
Part of your solo training must be visualization of multiple aggressors all trying to get at you or behind your or around you as you move and stroke, always with a step per stroke with whatever weapon you choose.
Bridge —and multiple, fight in Paris. Also, talk about join8ng a fight with dash and elan!

The French bridge fight is interesting, and is either what it looks like or something a little different.
The boxer dude is moving and punching like an expert, and probably is. The French cop has a stick and a shield, and either:
1) CAN'T do anything with it because he's totally dominated by the boxer and is afraid le baton will be taken away from him and he'll get hurt with it
or
2) Is under orders not to do anything with it, and just back up and don't bring that stick down across someone's temple and then they have a serious injury or death to deal with.
Since the boxer dude actually got a couple of shots into the cop's head, behind or over the shield, you'd think the cop would be authorized to use the stick, but they just ran backward. If he IS under orders not to use it, it's one thing ... and maybe boxer dude knew it.
It'd be interesting to know what JF thinks would have happened if he'd been wearing the shield and helmet and carrying that stick, and this guy would have come after him this same way ... ? Who has the better chance if both are equally motivated?

I dunno. I watched a lot of the yellow vest action but came away with the impression that the police, though vastly outnumbered, were in control of the situation and pulling punches. They didn't unleash the Malinois but chose stun-grenades instead to disperse the crowds. PR dictated strategy and the government was conscious of its image problem.
At the political level, yellow vests don't seem a serious threat to the French State, Most participants merely want a bigger share of its largesse (Charles Dettinger, for example, was upset by single-mother benefits, amongt other things). And they'll be put down by pay-offs, or promises. Real threats to the system are going to come from small, identitarian and autonomous social groups. Napoleon's Spanish conquest was thwarted by autochtonous guerrilla tactics and this history will be repeated on French soil in the decades ahead.
Ethnic battle lines are going to be drawn up in the South.
