Walking With Women - Basic Principles?
Sun, Oct 27, 5:12 PM (4 days ago)
James,
In an older article titled American Women ( you described a frustrating journey through an urban setting with a woman walking by your side. The fact that she was hell-bent on staying beside you made the walk stressful and perilous as your ability to protect her was diminished by her positioning.
Could you share with us the basic principle of walking with a woman in a dangerous settings? A few pointers :
1) How far behind should your woman be?
2) Should she be touching you at all (holding hands, tugging your shirt, etc)?
3) On which side should the woman be standing (weapon hand V.S checking hand)?
4) Should she be carrying a weapon or is it the man's prerogative?
5) What is her role (being watchful of unseen threats or trying to assist you if things go south)?
Best regards,

Wow, a blast from the past: American Woman!
Let me put this in context:
The most brutal group attacks by men of all races are by a group of males on man and woman.
Megan and I were threatened twice in this neighborhood over the next 3 years.
I was attacked and pursued by a pack of youths coming from her place one night.
This was one year before the Baltimore Purge of 2015 and since then that very area has accounted for more ebony on ivory killings than any other in Baltimore.
Megan has completely changed her mode of walking with me and, in a situation that next bloody year, behaved perfectly when we were surrounded by seven hoodrats who sought to take us down but then cracked under the woke deviltry directed at them. That account is in the book Waking Up in Indian Country.
Women like her, who have successfully fought weak men off, need coaching as much as total frails. especially, like Megan, when they have taken on a man's role in protecting a daughter and or granddaughter.
1) How far behind should your woman be?
Only one step behind is ideal and no more than three. She has to close up and touch you anytime the threat increases so that you don't have to look for her.
2) Should she be touching you at all (holding hands, tugging your shirt, etc)?
Reserve her touching you as a warning of and a response to danger. Work out a code, a tug for a visual or audio threat, a hand hold [left hand only] to indicate she is in fear or as a response to contact. Once in contact, she should remain behind and hold your left hand during retreat or evasion. Your right hand needs to be armed or fending and your heart refused from the advance foe.
3) On which side should the woman be standing (weapon hand V.S checking hand)?
Keep a woman behind your left shoulder and a comrade behind your right as a general rule.
4) Should she be carrying a weapon or is it the man's prerogative?
Yes, something to pass to you, to put in your right pocket, to hand you to throw, to fend or club. Her carrying something does not bring down the PIGs so much and can arm you up instantly. Megan carried some bottles to hit with and hurl while I was fighting, if it came to that.
5) What is her role (being watchful of unseen threats or trying to assist you if things go south)?
She watches from 4 to 8 O'clock.
She warns with tugs and advises retreat with a hand grab.
She hands you a weapon.
She directs a retreat with tugs as you fend them off.
In worst case overruns she pulls you into a doorway, or squats down below a mailbox or fire hydrant, or stairs case, anywhere where her target area is reduced and the danger of her getting planked onto pavement and sling-shotting her head into the hard floor is minimized while she helps you get something to your back.
She should tap you when she is level-changing.
Her main job is to be a witness for you against the second-wave, first-string criminals, the fucking PIGs, who will come to relieve and back-up and avenge the thugs if you succeed in your defense.
When she hunkers down behind you she needs to tap a warning so that you don't heel trip over her. Practice fighting around a huddled person. Shadow box around your backpack, or triangle step around your girl while she sits on a stool and knits or facebooks.
She should not help you by proactively counterattacking unless you are being killed, because this makes her part of your legal defense liability and ruins her as a witness and endangers her as well. Most frontier women did not fight the Indians for this reason, because they knew they would not be a target of attack unless they fought. Now, in the case of hoodrats, they will focus aggression on her when they finish you about half the time. But if she fights, that goes to 100%.
Her main duty is to remain quiet, supportive and lucid and viable as a witness.
Her combat duty, beyond those stated above should focus on protecting any children with you, calling for help on her phone, videoing evidence of your defensiveness, etc...
Good News: Women with children and then grandchildren, tend to grow a tactical brain where none was there before and are more reliable in the presence of a man they trust to be assertive. I'd take grandma Megan as a backup over Gina Scalptaker, even though Gina would murder Megan in a fight, because Megan can work as a team member and Gina is a smoking hot psychobitch that might even attack the PIGs when they show up. In an ideal world, it's me with a sword and Gina with a composite bow, slaughtering hoodrats. But with the PIGs on patrol, it's me snapping off a pen in a hoodrat's eye socket while Megan cradles little Emma in her arm and hands me a decorative brick to replace my spent weapon.
