As a writer I respect Sebastian Junger’s body of work [he wrote The Perfect Storm], and after viewing this video I’m inclined to expand that assessment. Obviously uncomfortable in front of a bunch of pasty-faced intellectual types, Sebastian does an incisive job of distilling the essence of the combat experience for young men. What he speaks of is dichotomous, and based on the levels of military commitment by the U.S. and the increasing levels of alienation within the nation, he is touching on a dichotomy that is still at the base of an exponential growth cycle.
Viewing this talk will be 15 minutes well spent for anyone interested in war, men, brotherhood, or alienation.
