On Saturday September 21, 2013 4 Somali Islamists attacked a high end shopping mall in Nairobi Kenya, killing 61, including 12 children and 3 pregnant women, and injuring 100s, among them members of most of the racial and ethnic groups on earth, including Muslims.
This documentary utilizes interviews and security footage from many cameras. There was actually a long low intensity ordeal which involved the terrorists trying to redeem themselves by showing some mercy to children and Muslims after the bulk of the slaughter. For all of the liberals out there that think gun control is all that will save you from something like this, let me sketch the rescue attempts and law enforcement and military response.
Few law officers were present to resist the terrorists, and soon backed away from the gunfight, leaving the helpless shoppers at the mercy of the Islamists.
Uniformed police, SWAT teams, and Kenyan military units were nearby, and quickly responded, but cowered in fear outside for 8 hours as hidden people within the mall were executed and the wounded bled to death.
A handful of men [two civilians with gun carry permits and three plain clothes police detectives] including two courageous Muslims, did stage a rescue operation and fought a handgun versus AK-47 battle. These men were eventually driven back but managed to rescue over a dozen people.
Eventually, after the wounded were mostly dead and the building on fire, the military and police staged an assault, in which three cops were gunned down by the soldiers. All of the military and law enforcement players then watched the building burn and leant a hand in its looting. The Islamists said their prayers on camera, and were not seen again.
The only effective use of counterterrorist force was by the five lightly armed men who were proud of having ‘no command structure’. The Kenyan military was just as cowardly as the U.S. airline passengers who sat back and watched stewardesses being killed by little twerps armed with razors and shanks a dozen years earlier.
In the end the terrorists apologized and asked for forgiveness, even handing out chocolate to children. This was a bizarre incident which will be replayed many times around the world in our lifetime, and is likely in the U.S. as well.
Malls are a bad idea.
