I have often thought that highly intelligent academics are doomed to ignorance as to the unintended consequences of delivering their ideas to the everyday person, for the very simple reason that they have not worked with Jerry Wright, who happens to be the biggest asshole I ever worked with. Stefan makes an excellent case against tribalism in this video. However, I am a tribalist. The reason why I am a tribalist is because I believe it is preferable to have multiple competing delusions rather than one monolithic delusion. And, to make the alternate point that Stefan could have made, to think that individual consensual reason will somehow be able to stand up to mass compulsive delusion, is, well delusional.
