Two of my favorite rebellious characters, people who have turned their backs on slavery and made themselves the enemies of liberals and mainstream black America, have a discussion about something really basic, protecting a business enterprise in an “open city.”
I have worked to secure venues of a similar size against similar intruders and must say it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, bar none. I would dig ditches for $10 an hour before I’d do Darien’s job for $20.
