My remote friend north of the Mason Dixon Fiction has provided an hour of audio gold for the soul. I will often listen to this, I think, while writing A Once Great Medieval City.
James,
I found this recording on vinyl many years ago while working in a record store. In light of your new Mencken series you might derive some inspiration from hearing the great bard speak (plus listening might take some of the strain off of your eyes).
This is the only known recording of Baltimore's greatest mind. Recorded at the Library of Congress in June 1948 a few months before the stroke that robbed him of the ability to read and write. His speech was also greatly affected...
There are some great moments in this recording.
Enjoy and take care,
-Nero the Pict
