Thanks to Phil for the heads up on the posting of this informative article.
Eric Raymond does an excellent job of explaining this controversial shooting so that anyone to the right of Larry King should be able to understand it.

I don't completely agree with his take on this. Now I know I don't live or am I exposed to near the danger you or the police are. There's a comment on the article you linked.

tz on 2015-11-25 at 11:41:08 said,"...Shouldn’t police be held to a higher standard than citizens?

...So if an ordinary citizen sees anyone with a knife within 21 feet he is afraid of, he can pull out a gun and shoot immediately “just in case”? What is the standard for the untrained?

If the police are going to divide so “Citizens are the enemy”, it is no longer policing, they are an occupying army, and being ambushed by insurgents is normal for war. If police call me “the enemy”, then I’m their enemy whether I want to be or not. War only takes one party to declare it, but both are then at war..."

I agree with this guy. I think many people believe that since he's a Black guy it doesn't matter but I don't think the police see it in those terms. They're shooting everyone. I saw a video of a cop who shot a guy, in the back, who was whittling on a stick with a knife. Cop told him to drop the weapon but...guy was deaf.

There was a 5'-7" White student at the University of Auburn who was naked and knocked on the police prescient window. Cop comes out and shoots him. If you can't handle a University student without shooting him you don't need to be a cop. There's lots and lots and lots of these. Too many.

The police have been getting away with shooting people for very little reason. If citizens had the same rights to shoot people as the police I wouldn't complain so much. Of course we wouldn't have very much need for the police at all if that was the case. The criminals would be quaking in their boots.

I've been told that police training has been taken over by the IsrŠ°eli's. If so they're training to treat us like Palestinians. Palestinians aren't free. If we're treated like them are we?

Just to make myself clear it's not about the guy being Black. I'm not a SJW, at all. I live in the South East and don't care for Black people at all. I know there's a lot of decent Blacks but from my perspective there's no incentive to have anything to do with them. Too many bad experiences. If I hang around with Blacks what does it get me? Nothing.

I have a different defense strategy than you do. You carry an umbrella, carry pens for weapons, train at stick fighting, etc...I just stay away from Blacks. :) You're way is more noble and amuses me to no end but mine is equally effective on average.
