The Reverse Lunge Slash
Getting Away While Making Them Pay in Stick Fighting

JAN/13/16
If you are good at jabbing with the backhand, bouncing in and bouncing out, then try halting and using yourself like bait. When the opponent closes the distance throw a forehand slash while pushing off with the lead foot, launching yourself into a reverse lunge. As your body moves backward or diagonally to the open side added force from your movement will amplify your stroke,
Practice alternating it with a forward lunge to a smash, just lunging back and forth smashing the bag with a forehand or backhand, a 1,2,3 or 4, utilizing the moving of your weight forward and sinking the stick into the bag at the same time your lunging foot sinks into the floor. I like the entry stroke as a Number 3 the best.
Now lunge back with your Number 1 slash, ripping the stick across the face of the bag or through it as you lunge back.
This drill is a great leg workout.
Do not begin your workout with this type of ballistic footwork, but work on it toward the end of your session.
Another application is to simply wait and hold your ground and do a reverse lunge away with a Number 1 stroke, and then bounce back in with a smash to finish your man.
