Real Smack Downs
Bas Rutten Knockouts
© 2016 James LaFond
JAN/21/16
For anyone who has not fought bare knuckle, and for those who have and have broken their hand on some block head, this is a must view.
General Points: The Japs are fat heads with a lot of heart, so he kicks and locks more. With the American fighters he tends to hit more because they have less durable heads and thinner bodies. The movement in these fights is pretty lame, which does play into his hands. However, consider that these shoot fighters are a damn sight more athletic and aggressive than what you are likely to encounter, which means you should be able to pull off the open handed head shots and body punches, the latter working better for you than for Bas, most likely, as you will be punching fat white guys, little brown guys, and skinny black thugs.
Specific Points:
13: smacking the chin from the shoulder
56: When to use a knee, when he is getting up and you are in side position
127: A missed slap commits you less and flows into a sprawl, where a punch gets you taken down.
140: Only punch to the face after you have hit with a slap to the head [sure he said he didn't punch him there] to be sure of targeting.
208: Throw body punches straight, do not upper cut to the body in bareknuckle.
220: Fighting a muscled up fat head? Smack that watermelon head, making its weight work against his neck! You should watch this entire fight, it was epic.
228: When to use a palm thrust, when he is on his back.
342: Measures with lead open hand on far shoulder and hits with open hand right hook. He could do this with his eyes closed, just bringing his hands together with a pivot.
345: Clinching and smacking is more effective than clinching and punching as the wrist would fail at this angle.
