The Blind Ape of Truth
"FANE OF THE BLACK PHARAOH" by Robert Bloch (Audiobook)
© 2016 James LaFond
JAN/26/16
Fane of the Black Pharaoh taps into the heresy of the Sun on the part of the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaton, and H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthuluh mythology to weave a retrospective tale of terror that strikes this reader as a possible influence on Anne Rice’s novels Queen of the Damned and Blood and Gold. Within this story is embedded a tale of blood memory, of the inheritance of great burdens and dark dooms from long dead ancestors. The theme fits neatly between those concepts explored by Lovecraft and Howard in their horror writing.
This reading is superb, meshing well with Bloch’s haunting style, which is growing on me easily.
