NICK BLACKWELL INJURY: IS IT TIME TO BAN HEAD BLOWS IN BOXING?
BY PAUL FLYNN ON 3/30/16 AT 7:28 AM
Okay, Sean, the article was lame, and ill-informed about boxing, MMA, martial arts, and bare-knuckle boxing. Other than describing the brain as a suspended organ, it has little good information.
So, Nick Blackwell may die, why?
The opponent’s corner, Chris Eubank, Senior, whose son was fighting Nick, knew he was out on his feet, and was the only party officially involved who wanted a stoppage, but had no mechanism available to him to end the fight without getting his son disqualified.
The referee was negligent.
The ringside doctor was negligent.
The people at worst fault were Nick’s corner.
The referee should be barred from the sport.
The doctor should be barred from the sport.
Nick’s corner men should be executed by Nick’s closest male relative.
Problem solved.
As for the notion of barring head punches in boxing. If we did that we would have to bar head punches and kicks in MMA, and further bar punches to the head in sparring, which means that human men would soon be unable to defend themselves effectively when attacked. Most men train in boxing for self defense, because boxing is the most effective martial art in real street encounters, for the sole reason that boxers learn how to deal with head contact, and real encounters begin with surprise head contact.
Baring punches to the head would be a perfect tool to further erode free will. Of course this will not happen. However, the shallow case made by the author is typical of our secular world, in which the human form is worshipped over all else, and must be preserved at all spiritual costs. The atheistic mind cannot sanction any pursuit that risks death any more than you would sanction any pursuit that explicitly denied God.
What I do suggest, is that boxing dispenses with these heavy gloves and that permit so many head blows high on the skull. 4, 5, 6 ounce boxing gloves should be used, depending on fighter weight class, which would also make boxing more effective as a survival art and would encourage body punches. Also, the amount of plastic tape permitted to bind the fist should be reduced to the single 8-inch strip used in amateur boxing. Gauze, enough tape to fasten the gauze, and light air-cushion gloves should do it.
His, many a hand would be broken, but you have a spare.
Let’s pray that Nick comes through.
