Henry Armstrong had the best work rate, Willie Pep had the best defense, and Ray Robinson had the best offense of all time. Understand that Robinson also had the best overall results, which tells you something about the importance of offense in the boxing ring.
Below are three videos, the third being a black pride video I’ve seen five times and enjoyed.
The second video features a famous match between Robinson and Graziano, which is a must see. His corner man was named Whitey! I am providing the link to this longer version because of all of the politically incorrect commentary and advertising. Note in this video the adoration for Joe Louis, a black man, in a time when we are told there was nothing but white hatred for blacks, let alone a black man who knocked out dozens of white men. the referee calls the fighters boys as instructions are given in public rather than in secret. What a time to be a boxer this must have been, to be a hero among heroes.
When you study Ray Robinson pay attention to the synchronization of his hips and elbows and don’t be fooled by the low hands, as this is partially done to keep continuity with the hips.
Hey james supposedly my grandmothers cousin who's name was bobby woods was a pro fighter in the 40s fought a 10 rounder with ray robinson bobby fought under a different name unfortunately my grandparents have passed away years ago and I can't figure who he was I do know bobby woods was in local 16 iron workers and fell off the bay bridge during its construction and died take care Ronald
James,
Question about the Lamotta Sugar Ray fight. It seems that Lamotta is constantly going into a crouch and at times leaning forward a great deal. Mr. Robinson had an advantage as far as reach goes. What was he thinking ( I know you are not a mind reader)? Is there any benefit to be derived from his technique as far as self defense against a taller attacker goes? That crouch just seems counter intuitive.

Will address this in an article, soon.
Thanks for the fodder.
