Try this drill shadowboxing and on the light bags. The double-ended or reflex bag works best for this.
Step back with a drag jab.
Step bag with a draw jab.
Fade with a jab.
Slide with a jab.
Shift with a jab.

You have now moved in a U pattern away from and around your target. I have never seen a fighter do the entire sequence in competition and that is not what it is for, but is intended as a coordination drill.
The draw-fade-slide jab combination is used quite often by crafty boxers and is best worked on the double-ended bag, but should be tried on all types of bags, including the speed bag and heavy bag and in sparring.
