Knives is an 8-page review of the most effective heavy fighting knifes or short swords. As with all of Eirik’s work, the footnotes are extensive and he proves himself to be exceeding well-read in reality-based knife literature. With information on missionary beheadings in tropical lands and machete gangs, he reminds us how close we are to the being and the end of mankind. He covers two knife wars that most people do not think of in that fashion, the American Civil War and World War I, in which large knives, like the Welsh WWI trench sword and the knuckle-guard bowie are covered.

Eirik knows his cutlery expertise and recommends an investment in machetes for any survival retreat, and I could not concur more. This chapter amounts to a utility-based historical survey of short swords. The balance of this 56-page chapter, Melee Weapons: Fucking Your Foe with a Bo or a Jo, Blade or a Spade is devoted to other hand weapons, including axes, swords and hammers, with expense ranking as a prime consideration, as it should.
