“James, what do you think of the ROK knife training at the beginning and end of the video?"
Shep
Okay, Shep the knife to knife action was kind of staged. As with any commando type, you just want these guys to murder people so it’s all about killing an unarmed or gun-armed dude with a knife and why so much attention is paid to sawing through the neck with the ice pick grip. This sentry removal. As for the firearm tactics, I don’t know anything about that, but liked that the pistol work was so close, which is the only thing that makes sense. With the knife to knife you see the staged Uke martial arts of Asia come into play.
The only thing I did not like was the way in which the knife attack was staged on the dummy in the beginning and the standing man on the carrier at the end. If he is a sentry you get closer, get behind and get it over with. If he also has a knife you move with every two cuts grossly [footwork] and every cut from the waist up.
One thing that most people do not know is that the Koreans are all over the world killing people. Everywhere we go, they go. I spoke to an air force man stationed in Afghanistan and he told me that the Koreans were so much more dedicated to their PT that it was like they were cyborgs or something. Korean prize fighters and Korean soldiers are respected by any fighting man with a brain and feared by anyone without balls. I might be able to murder one of these guys in a knife fight, but I can’t hit that ship with a gun, sure as hell can’t run down a mountain and would probably die of shock just trying to do their morning exercises. Keeping in mind how broad-based the skills of the commando must be, we can’t expect them to be the best at anything anymore than we could expect an MMA fighter to win a boxing title. Commandos are the best at putting the most skills together in the combat space, the MMA fighters of postmodern warfare.
