“James, I haven’t popped on your site in years and I can’t believe the traffic you’re getting! How did you guys do it? What methods did you use to build site traffic?”
-Scott L.
Thanks for popping back in, Scott.
All I have done is write. I have done zero to promote the site. It is a virtual place that Charles set up for me to write.
Charles has done two things. In 2012, he told me to make sure I put the title and author of each book I review in the subtitle of the review, declaring that "with all of the weird shit you read" this would place me at the top of weirdo reader book review searches.
The other thing he did was disseminate the Baltimore Travel Guide, which will be addressed on the timeline below.
1. December, 2013 Boxing with MMA Gloves was reposted and almost doubled our readership. Most of those who go to this “Readit” reposting site hate most of my content, so don’t stay long.
2. November 2014, Bart Maney asked Jack Donavon to review Taboo You. Jack’s review doubled our readership again.
3. February 2015, Ann Sterzinger found me, reviewed two of my books, and even though her readers at Takimag [I am told] generally panned my work, enough of them checked out the site and stayed to double our readership again.
4. April, 2015, Mobs of innocent, unarmed, oppressed, black youth shot, stabbed, beat and burned their way across Baltimore, increasing our readership significantly when internet readers began looking for real, on the ground coverage of the so-called unrest. Our readership expanded by about 25%
5. June, 2016, Our readership increased slightly due to the Baltimore Travel Guide release, which was panned across the internet as racist.
6. In July, 2016, a man named Ricky Vaughn, tweeted my Dindu Down! article and we received another 25% readership increase. Apparently, the Bostonian blogger known as Z-man has linked to our site in the past and is said to be the link between us and Ricky.
Bart, Jack, the faɡɡots at Readit, Ann, the Harm City Hoodrats, Z-man and Ricky, thank you.
To keep up on our web traffic status use this link below, which is also found on each page in the Content box.
Note, that every September we have lost readers by a large margin. It will be interesting to see if that holds true this year.
