How do you like that? The “rule of three” holds true across the Pond as well . Once more you are on the cutting edge of societal evolution for having identified this pattern James.
Thank, you, thank you—please be seated...
Jeremy, it was quite accidental. In fact, for a few years I thought that so many trios of attackers were occupying my violence study merely because people were unable to recall how many attackers were involved when three was more than three. One, two and three, they always got that. But over three and you start hearing ten right away. It wasn't until I broke out the mass attack stuff into When You're Food that the dim light bulb went off. Of course, it is an efficient number when looked at tactically. However, when I was collecting data it was obvious that the most successful attackers were pairs so this through me off until I noted that the least successful targets of violence were pairs. Probably the fact that I interviewed so many bouncers and boxers and other competently violent people in the early years had this question eluding me from 1996-2003.
Also, Jeremy, as an aspiring barbarian, I'd rather be known for being on the cutting edge of societal devolution.

Knowing the lyrics to "Whiskey in the Jar" got me laid when I was visiting Ireland in 2002.
It's a great song anyway. Whiskey, whores, swords, highway robbery and shooting cops. What's not to like? All that and the damn thing's over 300yrs old.
