Amain

“The Grey God passes, and we too are passing, though we have conquered. The days of the twilight come on amain, and a strange feeling is upon me as of a waning age.”
-The Grey God Passes
Amain is a term best suited for projecting force and ferocity and Achilles-like behavior in a poetic context. In The Grey God Passes it could not find a better home. The modern remnant of this term in fiction, “by main force” is mostly fallen out of use as well.
