Rival drug gangs spark prison riot in Brazil at least 56 dead- Decapitated Bodies Thrown Over the Wall
“A prison riot has left at least 56 dead, with decapitated bodies thrown over prison walls in the bloodiest violence in more than two decades in Brazil's overcrowded penitentiary system, officials in the Amazon city of Manaus said on Monday.”
“The violence was the latest clash between inmates aligned with PCC, Brazil's most-powerful drug gang, and a local Manaus criminal group known as the North Family. The Manaus-based gang is widely believed to be attacking PCC inmates at the behest of the Rio de Janeiro-based Red Command (CV) drug gang, Brazil's second largest.”
“A total of 184 inmates escaped, with 40 recaptured by Monday afternoon.”
'I really got pretty damn lucky'; Saskatoon man beaten, stabbed after confronting men breaking into his truck
Vibrant Diversity in Canada. Just call him ‘Lucky’.
“The man told him to go back inside and not worry about it, but Toms came closer. Then a second man stepped out of the truck, and Toms realized the first man had something in his hand — it looked like a knuckle-duster or dough cutter. The second man pulled out a big, long, blade.”
“Two six-inch gashes on the back of his head called for 20 to 30 staples, and he now has stitches and scars on his face and a bad bruise and other cuts on his back. Fortunately, a CT scan and X-ray came didn't turn up any other injuries. It was bad timing to discover the men in the middle of breaking into his truck, and bad judgment to confront them, he said — but his truck has been robbed three other times, so it was a point of pride.”
“Both suspects are described as indigenous, in their early twenties, about six feet tall and 150 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call police.”

A Saskatoon man says he will carry the scars of his mistake for the rest of his life after confronting two men who broke into his truck Thursday night.
"I really got pretty damn lucky if you want to look at it that way," Kyle Toms told Postmedia Network.
Around 10 p.m. Thursday he left his friend's house near 15th Street and Avenue N. As he came towards his blue 2012 Ford F-150, he saw a man inside.
"At that point I thought it was just him. As I came fully out of the house and he noticed me, he started getting out of my vehicle and walking down the street, I just walked across the yard and he and I exchanged words."
The man told him to go back inside and not worry about it, but Toms came closer. Then a second man stepped out of the truck, and Toms realized the first man had something in his hand — it looked like a knuckle-duster or dough cutter. The second man pulled out a big, long, blade.
"At that point I didn't really want any more of that so I started backing towards my buddy's place and the original guy basically punched me right in the jaw and that got me startled."
As the two men scuffled to the ground, the second man chopped at the back of Toms' head. The first man got up and they took a couple more swings before escaping.
The entire incident lasted perhaps five minutes, only 15 feet from the front door.
Toms, still conscious, stumbled back to the house and called his friends for help, who were in the basement oblivious to what had happened.
"I was raining blood at the time," Toms said. "It's not that the head wounds are super serious but I was bleeding a lot."

"I should have just let the guy walk away, you know? There's nothing of value in that truck. If I had stayed where I was or went back in the house I think he would have went on his merry way. I'm wearing that lesson for probably the rest of my life."

Who needs guns when you have earth-moving machines?
“McBurney said past ATM thefts prompted the company to "armour" its machines, including bolting the ATMs to the ground. But would-be thieves have adapted, turning to heavy equipment to get the job done.”
