Woman who beat husband to death in Edmonton sentenced to 15 years in prison
“According to an agreed statement of facts, Nyuk Hwang repeatedly hit her husband of 27 years with a shower curtain rod, a two-by-four piece of wood, a stone pestle, a yellow wooden stick and a red metal broom handle in their northeast Edmonton home during a protracted argument over his gambling problem.”
Canadian Federal government to pay for funerals of four slain in N.S. murder-suicide
The rest of the story of the Nova Scotia family annihilation.
“The obituary for Lionel Desmond said he “succumbed to the tortures of PTSD” relating to his service in Afghanistan. It described him as having a friendly demeanour and a contagious smile.”
Robbers hold up gas bar with long guns in Alberta
Interesting case. FYI: Blackfalds, Alberta is a town of 9,510, just north of Red Deer, pop. 90,564, on the Queen Elizabeth Highway #2 about halfway between Calgary (1,096,833) and Edmonton (899,447). In the USA the closer you are to a super highway the more likely you are to be targeted by criminals. Does this hold true in Canada as well? A Co-op gas bar is a gas station/ convenience store with a discount club arrangement. Sort of like a Costco or Sam’s Club.
It looks like the robber in the black parka has a Remington Nylon 66 .22 LR caliber Semi-automatic rifle:
A nice light and handy .22. They went out of production in 1989.
The robber in the red hoodie appears to be holding a Browning BLR lever-action rifle. A “high-powered” center fire rifle of indeterminate caliber.
The BLR is a high end hunting rifle with an MSRP of $950.
