What can I do to work on this?
-Sean
Sean, this weekend you are doing the best thing you can do, sparring with a guy that can get to you, that can get to hands.
Left-Handers are prone to hand hits as are their opponents.
Tall men are prone to hand hits.
Short men are also prone to hand hits.
People who do not do a lot of knife work are prone to hand hits.
People who lack point control are prone to hand hits.
When you spar with Charles this weekend:
1. Do mostly knife sparring
2. Practice keeping partners on the end of your stick
3. Make your backhand your first shot
4. You need a pass slash but this is getting your hand hit.
Try the following combination: left handed jab, pass slash, backhand slash
Work elongated X-strokes on the bag, shoulder to hips
watch how Charles uses the tip of his stick to keep his measure. He is one of the only stick fighters that does this. It's a skill you should cultivate.
