CALEXIT
California campaign to secede gains momentum

JAN/29/17
Since nearly every dumb PC and New Age idea that is used to oppress the rest of us in fly-over-country seems to have its origins in California, a CALEXIT doesn’t seem like an altogether bad thing. California already has border control checkpoints in place on its borders with the rest of the USA ( , ignores U.S. law on immigration and has much more restrictive gun laws than most of the rest of the country, so there wouldn’t be as much of a transition for it to become a completely independent state as one might imagine. The rest of the USA would have to decide what its immigration polices would be vis-à-vis refugees and displaced persons from California.
“Calexit enthusiasts, whose campaign is called Yes California, are pushing for independence on grounds the state is out of step with the rest of the US and could flourish on its own. "In our view, the United States of America represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued statehood means California will continue subsidizing the other states to our own detriment, and to the detriment of our children," according to their website. The idea of independence became very appealing to many Californians following Trump's shock election. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton easily beat Trump in the progressive state, winning by more than 4.2 million votes, almost double the number of ballots cast for Trump.”

I hope they allow a county by county vote so the state would split up. There are a number of "red" areas in Ca that should be

allowed to stay in the Union if they vote that way. There was a movement to split up that state not long ago.

Yes, I recall that three northern counties nearly had enough votes to split, meaning they would obviously wish to stay in the Union.

I was born here in California. We have been on the other side of every issue since I can remember anything. I happen to side with those that say we'd be the third largest third world economy on the planet. Some say the fifth largest. I view the whole US as a third world country at this point. A lot of them out perform us in health care, education and quality of life overall on a national level and the fed holds to that. I would just as soon see us have our own nation as to continue with the status quo. Regarding county to county vote, there are a lot of northern counties that feel they get shafted because most of their money, and water, goes to LA. Having had to use benefits, a time or two, I can testify that you get better bennies in LA. I don't think that is because they use all the money. I feel it is because of the presumed Christian values in the North where you should be punished for needing help. Sure, they could, and should, remain with the dominant Christian, Republican (sic) culture. Or move. I prefer they move. In 60 years I have met 5 people, aside from self, that were born here. They can always move away. As a native american.......I invite everyone to move away. Wants aren't always gets. But if everyone has a perspective, I get mine too.

"Wants aren't always gets" is now my favorite quote.

Thanks, Ruben.

m brings up a good point. Many blue states have a severe political divide between their urban and rural areas. California, Nevada, Colorado and Illinois are prime examples of this. Illinois would have gone all for Trump were it not for the fact that the populous metro Chicagoland counties carried the state for Hillary. Most states are winner take all for the electoral votes; some states like Maine and Nebraska divide up the electoral votes by voting district. The red counties of northern California are turning bluer by the day as indicated by the results of the November 2016 election. (See map). Although I imagine it’s still possible that a core of the deep red northern counties could break away from the rest of California. For that matter I must imagine that once the breakup of the USA begins in earnest we will not only see states secede and form new sovereign republics, but even parts of states break away and join with the emerging successor polities. For example, there already is a movement in western Maryland to break off from the rest of the state. washingtonpost.com/local/western-maryland-secessionists-seek-to-sever-ties-with-the-liberal-free-state/2013/09/08/15e97aa8-1651-11e3-804b-d3a1a3a18f2c_story.html?utm_term=.b53ccadd276c
