Expert Says North Korea threatens EMP, nuke attack on U.S.
Yeah, remember that TV show from 17 years ago “Dark Angel”? Are we facing that kind of scenario? A “post-pulse” future? Many experts predict that if the country’s electric grid were ever destroyed by a high-altitude EMP nuclear attack that as much as 90% of the population could be dead within a year. That is probably not an exaggeration, as among other disasters that would likely ensue, our cities would become unlivable without electric power. For example our modern dwellings are pretty air-tight and do not have sufficient natural ventilation for the safe use of open flame stoves for cooking and heating (not without electric exhaust fans). A lot of people would end up suffocating from carbon monoxide poisoning from using stoves and generators indoors without providing for adequate ventilation. Much as tends to happen now whenever power is knocked out during hurricanes and earthquakes.
Also the old, sick and crippled, people who are dependent on electric-powered devices just to stay alive are likely to come to grief very quickly.
As a little shaver I had occasion to watch an episode of the old “Loretta Young Show” on TV in which Loretta plays a woman who’s husband is paralyzed by polio and confined to an iron lung machine because he is unable to breath on his own (that was back in the days when people where more afraid of crippling diseases than they were of vaϲϲinations incidentally). An earthquake knocks out the electricity and the woman is forced to pump the iron lung manually to keep her paralyzed husband breathing and alive. The show made a profound impression on me. I remember thinking, my gosh how long could a person keep pumping that machine by hand? Not very long, eh? Not even motivated as you would be to keep a loved-one alive as long as you could. You would quickly become too exhausted to pump anymore and then you’d have to watch your loved-one die, helpless to do anything to stop it. Even if you had help to spell you, how long could you all keep up ministering to such a helpless person while providing for yourselves, especially if the gird was down indefinitely and all your labor-saving electric appliances no longer worked? How does the story end? Well you’ll have to watch it yourself. I won’t spoil it for you.

Missile defense system that China opposes arrives in South Korea

Seoul (CNN)The first pieces of a US-built missile defense system designed to mitigate the threat of North Korean missiles arrived at the Osan Air Base in South Korea Monday night, according to the US military.

North Korea says missiles were drill for strike on US bases
“Nuclear-armed North Korea said Tuesday its missile launches were training for a strike on US bases in Japan, as global condemnation of the regime swelled. Three of the four missiles fired Monday came down provocatively close to US ally Japan, in waters that are part of its exclusive economic zone, representing a challenge to US President Donald Trump. In separate phone calls, Trump—whose rhetoric on the campaign trail had raised doubts about the issue—reaffirmed Washington's "ironclad commitment" to Japan and South Korea. The US will demonstrate to Pyongyang that there were "very dire consequences" for its actions, the White House said in a statement.”
FYI. Here's the URL to the article about a possible NK EMP attack on the U.S. East Coast. The editor omitted it. Doah!
“A former NASA mission controller and space expert is raising new concerns that North Korea's missile program is aimed at launching a nuclear armed satellite at the U.S. where high-sky explosion would fry Washington and melt down the Mid-Atlantic electric grid, resulting in chaos and death. Describing North Korea's missile program, Jim Oberg said that it appears the goal is to launch weaponized satellites, a fear the Pentagon has already started to prepare for. "There have been fears expressed that North Korea might use a satellite to carry a small nuclear warhead into orbit and then detonate it over the United States for an EMP strike. These concerns seem extreme and require an astronomical scale of irrationality on the part of the regime," he wrote in Space Review. Then, after describing a bizarre trip he took to North Korea to witness the program, he concluded, "The most frightening aspect, I've come to realize, is that exactly such a scale of insanity is now evident in the rest of their 'space program’.”
“The threat is real, say the experts. What's more, it would be hard to prevent. Oberg said that recent changes to the missile launch pad and efforts to conceal its program suggest action soon.”
