Lurid pictures of the crime scene. Actually it looks like a mob hit. A WWII era TT-33 Tokarev pistol ( 7.62x25mm caliber) was recovered at the scene, but the article doesn’t make it entirely clear whether or not it belonged to the assassin or Voronenkov’s bodyguard who was also shot and wounded but managed to shoot and incapacitate the assassin. Whoever is behind this though clearly wanted to make a statement.

The TT used to be very popular in the Russian mob wars of the early 90s. There were many floating around, either stolen from vast military stores (the Russian army didn't pay its officers for months on end, and a lot of stuff stayed behind in the newly independent republics which were even more corrupt and anarchic) or dug up out of the ground. Because of the relatively small caliber and high speed, it would go through low-end body armor better than the alternatives.
I can't imagine any professional or semiprofessional bodyguard carrying that thing in 2017.
