Note the tale of the Icelandic traitor at 15:00 of the video. This traitor was a “servant” [always meaning slave in pre 20th century settings]. The fact is, that raids by slavers into Europe as well as by pirates into American ports and colonies, where often facilitated by the practice of the target society of keeping slaves, which is a sure method for insuring an internal enemy in time of war. The video is an excellent lesson in what happens when a people give up their martial heritage and responsibility to defend themselves—or has it taken from them by their government. The discussion of English and Dutch pirates switching alliances to Islam, so that they continue their piratical ways after Spain made peace with Holland and England is excellent and on point.
