Beating the Man Behind the Curtain
This is funny. To borrow a phrase from the great Brue Lee, this is another demonstration of what happens when a practitioner of “dry land swimming” jumps into  the water. However, many Chinese apparently feel that it is very impolite to point out the man behind the curtain.

“Cartels boost profits as painkiller supplies tighten up. Cincinnati police spend much of their time responding to heroin-related crimes.”
“Millions of Americans got hooked on pain pills during a prescription binge that started in the 1990s and peaked around 2011. As states have tightened monitoring and doctors have reduced dosages, it’s become harder for addicts to get prescription painkillers, driving many to get their fix off street drugs. Mexican cartels and big-city gangs have capitalized on the shift, extending networks of dealers across the U.S. and flooding the market with cheap heroin, according to law enforcement.”
“Cartels have begun lacing heroin with synthetic opioids including fentanyl, making a dose more addictive and cheaper to produce. Overdose reversal shots are helping addicts survive, often to use again, giving dealers a steady supply of repeat customers. With persistent demand and increasingly wide profit margins, 2017 is shaping up as the most profitable year ever for the U.S. heroin trade.”

“The Day the Earth was Hacked”.
Cyber attacks that shut down important infrastructure, such as the power grid, or vital communications networks, serving government and/or banking, could conceivably be as devastating as a terrorist nuke attack. Especially if they were nationwide in their effect.  Imagine if hackers could shut down the EBT card system at the same time as the 911 system.  How could and how would the government retaliate against such an attack?
"Cyber attacks that hit 74 countries across Europe and Asia Friday, impacting the public health system in Britain, apparently involved a leaked hacking tool from the National Security Agency. The attack used ransomware, which is malware that encrypts data and locks a user from their data until they pay a ransom. The tool, which was leaked by a group known as Shadow Brokers, had been stolen from the N.S.A. as part of a wide swath of tools illegally released in 2016.”
“Microsoft said that they had rolled out a patch to fix the issue, but certain targets, including the hospitals in Britain, had not yet updated their systems. The malware was sent via email with a file attached to it. From there, it subsequently spread.”
