This was a bantamweight bout scheduled for 4 rounds between Warren 12-0 [2 KOs] and Fuentes 5-1 [4 KOs] Fuentes was coming off a two-year layoff. Warren was the 2007 World Amateur Champion and the only three-time U.S. Olympian.
Warren’s small KO percentage is deceptive, as many of his pro fights came in the middle of his extensive amateur career. He is a righty converted to a southpaw. So you would figure him to be a hook and jab slickster with a record like that.
This did not turn out to be much of a fight. Warren came right out and began sinking the lead left into Fuentes’ chin, dropping him twice in Round 1 and finishing him against the ropes in Round 2.
I am writing this piece, because if you are a southpaw, or about to fight one, you need to watch this replay. Warren has the most perfect lead left I’ve seen a southpaw throw. He is obviously ramping up his conversion from amateur to pro in a big way. Expect to see him challenging within 18 months, politics aside that is.
