Let the World Fend for Itself
Big Ron’s Baltimore: A Working Man’s View of Urban Blight
© 2017 James LaFond
JUN/5/17
Big Ron’s Baltimore is a place where low pleasure and high pain, simmering hate and mixing race, drug addiction and police terrorism stew side by side and cheek by jowl, the resulting culture of decline making of a once great city a whirlpool of stern lies and their progeny of despair. For three months, carpenter, boxer and street-fighter, Ron M. spent over 50 hours with the author, discussing his upbringing and manhood in the penitentiary-style public school system, the life lessons of old time sporting men and the seething racism, rampant criminality and corrupt police state politics which inform every choleric breath of our dying city.
‘Let the World Fend for Itself is Big Ron’s message to his fellow postmodern men as well as the story of our ruined city.
