Police investigate double shooting on Sheridan Avenue

BALTIMORE —

City police are investigating a double shooting early Monday.

Officers were called at 2:10 a.m. Monday to the 500 block of Sheridan Avenue for report of a double shooting.

Police found a 32-year-old female who was shot in the right arm and abdomen, and an 18 year-old female who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

Detectives were not able to get any cooperation from either of the witnesses, nor the victims, police said.

FYI: many states have a state militia structure on the books separate from their National Guard. During World War I and World War II the National Guard units from many states were called to federal duty and deployed overseas as part of the U.S. Army. Theses states then were forced to form additional state militia units for internal security and a disaster relief. These state militia units were made up of volunteers who often were required to supply their own weapons, as was the case of the Maryland Militia. Nowadays these state militia structures exist mostly on paper , or in a few case as skeleton administrative organizations available to be filled out with volunteers. Should the need arise again the state legislatures can invoke the law and stand up new militia units. Although nowadays it is hard to imagine our Leftist Deep State rulers ever trusting the common people enough to countenance them to using their privately owned arms to protect the state. Not unless they wanted to give oppressed denizens of the major cities “room to destroy” that is.

“With the Army and the National Guard busy overseas, homeland defense was the responsibility of the rest of the American public. On March 10, 1942, Maryland’s Democratic governor, Herbert O’Conor, called forth the militia of Maryland. In a radio address to the People of the State, O’Conor called for the creation of the Maryland Minute Men. They would provide “local protection against parachute troops, saboteurs, or organized raiding parties” — attacks that might be assisted by “by enemy sympathizers within our State.” (The full text of the speech is reproduced at the end of this post.)”

“The U.S. military did not have arms or ammunition to spare. “Hence, the volunteers, for the most part, will be expected to furnish their own weapons. For this reason, gunners (of whom there are 60, 000 licensed in Maryland), members of Rod and Gun Clubs, of Trap Shooting and similar organizations, will be expected to constitute a part of this new military organization.”

“The Maryland Minute Men, armed with weapons with which they are thoroughly familiar from long use, operating in a community in which they are accustomed to every road and trail and stream, and aroused to fighting pitch by the knowledge that they are serving to protect their own homes, their family and all that they hold dear in life, will prove a staunch defense against any enemy activity.”
