Peter McAllister in Manthropology: The Science of the Inadequate Modern Male (Hachete, 2009), shows that modern man is weak and getting weaker, both physically and mentally. We are sustaining society only because of the sheer number of techno-grunters hard at work each day, not because of any intrinsic mental excellence in individuals.
In terms of strength, if we go back to the Neanderthals, the average woman was stronger than the best strength athletes are today. Even loaded with steroids, modern men do not equal the strength of even men in antiquity. For example, Eumastas, son of Critobulus lifted a 481-kilogram boulder. An athlete called Bybon lifted a 143-kilogram stone, one-handed, and threw it.
Feats in weaponry, such as archery have also not been met by modern man.
The reason for this is not genetics, but environment, McAllister argues, although I have some doubt, given dysgenic trends that have occurred during the past centuries, with the best and brightest being culled out in senseless New World Order wars.
But, if it is environment, then it is surely an argument against over-civilization, for once the comforts and protections of the modern womb are removed, soft modern man will perish, as the weak always will:
