Our headquarters left for the north coast on invitation of the commander.
There are no entries for the 28th and the 29th.

Men in the areas of the Water Point are subsisting on two hard tacks [1] and one potato a day. Even when they have rice, 150 men will share 15 pounds of rice.
July 31, 44
Last night, two of our planes came to attack. Was it a forerunner of our long-expected August offensive?
Notes
1. A hard tack is a dried biscuit that was in use as the standard naval ration from 1500 throughout the Age of Sail, which effectivelyended in 1862.
