Men in the areas of the Water Point are subsisting on two hard tacks [1] and one potato a day. Even when they have rice, 150 men will share 15 pounds of rice.

Last night, two of our planes came to attack. Was it a forerunner of our long-expected August offensive?

1. A hard tack is a dried biscuit that was in use as the standard naval ration from 1500 throughout the Age of Sail, which effectivelyended in 1862.
