We walked along the coast lines.
Found out that Commander Mayeda came from the same prefecture where I came from.
Bivouacked on this side of an isthmus.
August 30, 44
Forded a river in the morning. Platoon Commander Kawamura drowned.
Today we walked only two kilometers.
August 31, 44
One man drowned while fording the third river. The water came up to our necks.
We turned back and bivouacked.
