Physicists and philosophers seem to have fallen in love with the idea of the multiverse: that there are other universes, not spatially connected to our own. There was first the splitting universe idea in quantum mechanics, to deal with the collapse of the wave packet problem, but today with string theory, it seems that everything goes:
Now, a popular idea of the multiverse is that all realities are actualised. Every possible world is real, in some universe. Why, we even have logical systems (the modal realism of David Lewis) making use of this; have a read of this to cure your insomnia:
There is a world where I am not a fat, aging professor of physics in a third-rate US campus, with prostate and erectile dysfunction problems, but instead, a young hot-blooded, super-well hung, Nobel Prize winner, who gets to bang horny female students, who don’t then put him up on rape charges.
To reduce this idea to absurdity, let as consider this possible world: one of the omnipotent multiverse annihilators, right out of the comic geek world. If all realities are actualized then there is one possible world where cosmic killers exist, who would seek to destroy all other universes. Argue by assumption that such psychopaths have the power to annihilate universes.
Thus, on the assumption that the multiverse exists, it follows that it would not exist, since the cosmic killers would have annihilated us. Since they have not, they do not exist. This is a perverted version of what is known as the anthropic principle:

that the presumed existence of some entity (e.g. humans or observers), precludes other existences inconsistent with its existence. Don’t tell me, sheer fuckn’ brilliant, yet I just got this argument rejected by a physics journal. You ϲunts! Cock suckers! Fuck you!It follows that the multiverse does not exist. Physicists need to go back to the drawing board. It also show that there is something very wrong with the a priori type of thought experiment physics which was introduced by guys somewhat lazy about doing real world experiments, like Uncle Albert.
I am sure that all this fits in well with Darwinian survivalist considerations, since won’t those principles also apply to universes as well?
Profound shit indeed.

As you alluded to, the 'multiverse' is the product of physicists working backward from their philosophy to a cosmology. Ultimately, everyone works backwards from philosophical presuppositions to a cosmology and worldview. The question is if they can do it without contradictions.
The multiverse is, of course, required if you believe in classical probability theory which states that probability models are true given an infinite number of trials. Given an infinite number of possible universe, ours - with its finely-tuned physical constants and our Earth set at the exact right distance from the sun to support life and humans as this high-functioning species - is an inevitabilty with no need for God to create it.
Working backwards from my philosophy, there is God who created everything from nothing and will eventually judge these physicists and others who set up alternative systems of religion that oppose Jesus and the gospel. Now is the perfect time for them to repent and believe.
Clearly, the universe annihilators have been held in check by the combined efforts of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Gods of Asgard and Olympus, plus all the super-powered villains who obviously have skin in the game. If the Big Baddies can exist, then so too can the Giant Good Guys. See the prize-winning theorizing of Marvel's Secret Wars (1985) for a demonstration of this solution to the conundrum.
Turtles, turtles all the way down.
Not exactly everyone works backwards from philosophy to cosmology.
I think those messengers from the very early universe take samples from time to time. Very few samples survive the trip, and even less can come back to tell the tale- with their skin intact.
Perhaps that is the reason to cultivate virtue and honor.
The very early universe is just a baby and does not know the difference between medicine and poison, mostly.
