'They Get Chinny Way Too Quick'
Boxing Gyms" with Dana White (from Joe Rogan Experience #327)
© 2017 James LaFond
SEP/8/17
This discussion is a very good exposition of all of the wrong ways to operate a boxing gym. I have been in all three of these boxing settings:
-the white collar gym
-the old school Darwinian gym
-the evolved boxing and/or MMA gym
MMA has helped broaden the opportunities for boxing training to become more effective and broader-based due to putting more bodies into the gym when the gym has been losing membership for three decades.
The Tracey Roger Mayweather gym fight is a classic example of what pro welterweights can do to ordinary heavyweights.
The second video clip is very interesting in terms of the bar-fighting situation and why you don't want to be a loudmouthed tough guy like Dana White.
Thanks to Big Ron for this.

It's funny how the slap has gone out of fashion. As feminism invested woman with the full power of the State, she became less inclined to deal directly with inappropriate or unwelcome behavior. This, with the decline in corporal punishment, has seen the slap fell into disuse. Pity. Anyone who's ever caught one on the cheek, knows the shock. Out of nowhere, if well thrown, and stunning.

KO's, too, if a there's a bit of weight behind it. Still socially acceptable in "less developed" nations.

When they say, "Chinny" or "punchy," do they mean this?

I talked to a former tough man competitor last weekend who fought down in West Virginia and said he was never the same after he had bleeding in the brain.

I don't think I want my boys doing this.

Epic slap video, Bob. Combine that with Geoff Thompson's "Fence" and you've got a KO every time.

There were a lot of KOs in that video. This is now my go-to technique since I've broken hands before fighting.

@ PR: Yeah, it's amazing how fast the hand can move when you don't have to tighten the hand. Here's a good clip by Lee Morrison:

In the event of legal issues, a slap, I imagine, could be defended as less aggressive than a punch (an idea not necessarily rooted in reality, as the video shows). A legacy of its traditional use by women on men and children.

Hmm That first clip sounds a lot like old stories I used to hear about what Pro-wrestling gyms used to be like. So desperate to prove themselves that they would just brutalize students for no reason.

Right you are, Bob. "I swear, your 'Honor', I only meant to humiliate him, not knock him the f out!!"

The video itself shows how surprised some of the slappers and onlookers were by the KOs.
