Research has been published by researchers at the University of California, Davis, a campus I once attended as a student long ago, about the effects of the “love hormone” oxytocin on the female brain. Just contemplate that for the moment, the female brain.
Here is the study, because at this site we love references and scholarship: Natalia Duque-Wilckens, Michael Q. Steinman, Marta Busnelli, Bice Chini, Sae Yokoyama, Mary Pham, Sarah A. Laredo, Rebecca Hao, Allison M. Perkeybile, Vanessa A. Minie, Phillip B. Tan, Karen L. Bales, Brian C. Trainor. “Oxytocin receptors in the anteromedial bed nucleus of the stria terminalis promote stress-induced social avoidance in females.” Biological Psychiatry, 2017; DOI: 10.1016/j.biopsych.2017.08.024
Ok, it is another rat study because it is hard to get ethics approval for drilling into people’s brains, mining brain tissue, or whatever. It was found in female lab rats, which is basically what most people are anyway, the hormone oxytocin produced not only positive love and cuddles feelings, but dark negative ones as well, negative social interactions arising from unfamiliar social situations. Social avoidance occurred.
Negative social experiences were amplified in the female brain, but not the male one. The really surprising thing about this, from any man who knows a women, is that you never would have predicted that something like this was reality, would you?
