'Doomed to Roam'
Heritage by Robert E. Howard

OCT/6/17
Reading from pages 37-9 of A Word from the Outer Dark
Heritage is an ethnic ode, of some embarrassment to the publisher of this book, in this sissy, deracinated age, consisting o six verses of either 4 or 6 long lines each. Embedded in this poem is what appears to be the author's fierce belief that the warlike and tragic circumstances of his unrepentant ancestors have echoed down through the ages and resound within him. Below, savor the savagery of a few lines from the first verse and be sure and get a copy of this fine little book if you can:
"Their hearts were black with ancient wrongs
and hate and bitter pride.
Their souls were wild and restless,
with swift and changing moods;
They knew red border forays
and dark unholy feuds."
This book has been my near constant companion since lent to me by Mescaline Franklin this past summer.

This volume is only available from the Robert E. Howard Museum in Cross Plains, Texas.

His verse is spread throughout the various character collections. I do not know if all of it is collected anywhere.
