It is unfortunate that a group of thin-skinned killer primates were able to develop the technological capacity to destroy life on Earth. Otherwise, the naked apes could have been merry slaughtering each other and drinking blood out of the skulls of their enemies. All would have been good.
Following the law of evolution and survival of the fitness it is inevitable that humans will displace themselves by advanced AI, terminator style. Computer geek Elon Musk has said:
“Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal,” he said.
“AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation instead of reactive. Because I think by the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it’s too late.”
“Normally the way regulations are set up is a while bunch of bad things happen, there’s a public outcry, and after many years a regulatory agency is set up to regulate that industry,” he continued.
“It takes forever. That, in the past, has been bad but not something which represented a fundamental risk to the existence of civilization. AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.”
And what is he doing about it? Working on technology to connect the human brain to software:
Personally I think civilization will be destroyed before the AI singularity occurs and it destroys al life, for machines are likely to be racist against carbon-based life forms. In the end, it is now just a question of which toxin kills us first.
