“I’m no gang ringleader.”
“Prosecutors are delighted when a black defendant takes the stand. It is like shooting fish in a barrel.”

Note that Marquise “Digga" McCants insisted on taking the stand to explain himself, contrary to the advice of his defense counsel.
Q (J.P. Francomano, Defense Attorney): “I’m heavy. Why say ‘I’m heavy’? Doesn’t that mean you had a gun on you?”
A (Marquise “Digga” McCants, Defendant):”I wanted to sound tough. If you don’t have a gun on you in Baltimore City, you have to act like it. That’s my tactic.”
Q (Christina Hoffman, Prosecutor):” ‘I’m gonna get him’, doesn’t that mean ‘I’m gonna kill him’” (referring to text message).
A (Marquise “Digga” McCants, Defendant): “No, I meant I’m gonna try to get in touch with him.”
"I said take care of him …”

Anarcho-Tyranny Update.
They’re baaa-ck!
“It is regrettable that Germany, which can barely keep up with the terrorism threat and the wave of violent crime, is spending such vast resources on shutting down the free speech of its citizens on social media.”
Old habits die hard it appears. Well the principal purpose of the police is not to protect the common people from crime so much as it is to keep the ruling elite securely in power. Isn’t it? We Americans always assume that a police state will be crime free. That the governing authorities therein will enthusiastically and efficiently round up all criminals, effectively suppressing robberies and street crime. That is usually NOT the case. Most totalitarian police states generally promote some form of Anarcho-Tyranny. Nazi Germany was the exception to this rule. The Third Reich vigorously suppressed common crime such that it had an annual murder rate of a mere fraction of one per 100,000 of the population by most estimates (not counting people executed by the state). Most other totalitarian regimes in the rest of the wide world are nowhere near as tidy as the Third Reich was. By contrast we have seen that under regimes such as the Soviet Union, the U.S.S.R.’s Eastern European Communist client states and Ba’athist ruled Iraq the criminal class was allowed to ply their trade pretty much unmolested, just so long as they did not threaten the power of the State. One of the shocking revelations by Soviet defector Victor Belenko was how rampant street crime in the Soviet Union was and how little the police did to combat it there (See Mig Pilot: The Final Escape of Lt. Belenko by John Barron 1983). Pretty much the same in Saddam’s Iraq we came to find out (Remember the ‘Ali Baba’ looters of Baghdad in 2003?). Certainly we know that the Russian Mafia and all the other Eastern European organized crime groups now operating internationally did not arise fully formed out of nowhere once the Communist bloc collapsed. This pattern was also portrayed in George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 published in 1949. Thus the current regime of Anarcho-Tyranny in Germany, along with the return of the ‘surveillance state’, appears to very ‘Communist’ in nature.

If the cops left low-level street crime alone in the USSR, I wonder about gun control? Gun control is, of course, disarmament of the law-abiding population. Over time, advocates say, this will lead to fewer "guns on the street." Given that there are 400 million guns in North American hands, I don't see how gun control will reduce gun crime. I suppose they could increase the penalties for owning a gun illegally, but of course the penalties for rape and murder are supposedly steep on paper buy Colin Flaherty documents how black rapists and murderers routinely get light sentences or "time served" as in the case of the Mexican who murdered Kate Steinle.
In the documentary of white political artist Shephard Fairey ("Obey Giant"), Fairey is charged with 32 counts of felony property damage for putting up stickers around Boston - one of the most liberal cities in the world. Cops said he was, "Disrespecting the commonwealth (of Massachussetts)" and one cop wanted to bust him. At his arraignment or trial, an enthusiastic black dreadlocked deputy DA was arguing with a black judge about the seriousness of the crime. The judge fortunately had a saner view of the world than to allow FAirey to be charged with a felony at all. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and a fine. Fairey, mind you, had just helped Barack Obama win the election with his art.
In anarchy-tyranny, I fear, the sentences for law abiding citizens who slip up or try to defend themselves will be steep. Solzhenitsyn did 8 years in the gulag just for criticizing Stalin. Afterward, he was exiled to Khazakhstan.
Maybe we'll all have to bury our guns and dig them up again in 100 years.

Criminal gangs in the gulag system didn't work, gambled and terrorized, raped, sodomized, killed inmates deemed "enemies of the Revolution" with the blessing of the authorities. Scylla or Charybdis, your pick.
For those laboring under the misapprehension that "Russian" mafia was a post-Perestroika phenomenon, I recommend Friedman's work. Useful in making sense of the local organized crime scene, too.
