Despite his youth and deformities, Three-Rivers is a renowned visionary among the Longhouse-people. So it is no surprise, that when an insane white savage comes into Mother Earth seeking Hiawatha, that it is Three-Rivers who meets him by chance under the looming forest above the Shellfish-water. There is cause, however, for surprise, and also an otherworldly quest; for this man is possessed by a potent flesh-demon, brings dread warnings of evil invaders, and has been sent into the world by a thunder-conjurer from a mysterious place beyond the very Sunset.

A diverse team of time-travelers are tasked with recovering lost genes and genius’ from the deep past. 16th Century Seneca Child Savant Three-Rivers, the first person recovered from the past, and the time-traveler that originally contacted him, become suspicious of their sponsors’ motives and begin a chronological insurrection.

It is 1868 and Captain Richard F. Burton, intrepid secret agent, undefeated swordsmen, towering intellectual and famed explorer wastes away as the British Counsel to Sao Paulo Brazil... Little does he know that he is being sought by a duo of unlikely time-travelers: a mathematics professor and a murderously eccentric criminal.

The quest to journey through Time to plunder the past has turned into a scramble for possession of the time-travel devices, and of those people already brought forward. Three-Rivers, now a time-bending teenager with a messiah complex, heads a large cast of time-travelers as diverse as a Greek philosopher, an apostate Franciscan monk, and a drug-addicted squirrel.

This sci-fi tale spans 20,000 years, from the Ice Age to a future ruled by Human Fabrication Corporations and follows nine people: a Neanderthal shaman; a purpose built man-hunter; a Native American messiah; a reformed crack dealer; an ancient philosopher; a boy trapped in an innocence exhibit; a white supremacist; a ‘trashed’ immersion gamer; and a federal agent.

Three-Rivers possesses the power to command the thunderbirds and slip through the folds in Time. When he tricked Burnt Man and stole his thunder-hoop, he promised to make this up to his estranged benefactor by bringing the picture maker called Leonardo out of the past. Since Leonardo is just a Whiteman, Three-Rivers is not so concerned about his rights, and means to steal him into the future.
